WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern senior goalkeeper Hayden Clark has been a force to start the season, earning KCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after a shutout performance against York. Clark posted 10 saves and allowed no goals, finishing with a 1.000 save percentage.
Through four matches, Clark has logged 360 minutes in net, recording 41 saves with a .872 save percentage, while opponents have managed just three goals against the Moundbuilders. Her steady presence has helped establish her as a brick wall in her final season.
Clark's journey in soccer began by following in her father's footsteps as a goalkeeper, with her earliest memories including playing the position even before hands were allowed at the youth level. Inspired by her mom's constant support, she chose Southwestern for its welcoming community and the opportunity to continue her career.
On the field, Clark describes her playing style as physical, unpredictable, and competitive. She values communication as her greatest strength and takes pride in being the "eyes of the field."
One of her most memorable career highlights came last year when she saved a penalty kick against Friends University to help secure a win.
Off the field, the health science major plans to pursue veterinary school after graduation. Nicknamed "Bacon" since high school for her years showing pigs through the local Piedmont 4-H club, Clark also prioritizes family time away from soccer.
Looking ahead, her goals are clear: finish her senior year strong and help the Moundbuilders reach the KCAC tournament final. Her advice to younger players reflects her own journey:
"Never give up on what you plan to accomplish. The feeling of the accomplishment will always exceed the feeling of the dream."
